McKesson has confirmed a data breach involving 284 million records stolen by the ShinyHunters extortion group. The threat actor has issued a deadline, apparently related to extortion demands tied to the stolen data.
ShinyHunters claims to have stolen 284 million patient records from McKesson, a major U.S. healthcare distributor, following unauthorized access to third-party applications. McKesson detected the intrusion on August 25, 2026, and stated the investigation is in its early stages with materiality still being assessed.
Boston Scientific has clarified that a recent cyberattack compromised only certain on-premises systems while leaving its cloud-based infrastructure untouched, with no unauthorized activity detected since August 25. The medical device manufacturer continues recovery efforts with third-party experts including CrowdStrike, working to restore manufacturing and shipping capabilities while investigating whether data was exfiltrated or ransomware deployed. Currently, new remote-monitoring activations for cardiac devices are limited, but patient safety risks remain low as non-connected devices and existing remote monitoring continue to function normally.
